Verdigris is brass that has been chemically altered to turn into this beautiful blue/green color. It is then sealed with a wax to preserve it’s vintage appearance.
Verdigris should not ever be rubbed or polished as you will remove the protective sealant, thus exposing it to the elements and increasing the likelihood the patina will change.
Do not bathe or swim in your Verdigris jewelry.
Bright Gold Tone
We use a variety of types of metal to accomplish a gold tone in our jewelry. With that said, approximately 90% of everything that is gold in color is going to be raw brass. (raw meaning it has not been sealed and is simply brass exposed to all elements)
Raw brass ages quickly and beautifully and can be easily polished with a polishing cloth or a little lemon and salt (then rinsed with water). When possible please make sure to remove other jewelry components prior to polishing.
If your item contains a gold tone component but is not antiquing, it is because it is most likely either 24karat gold plated or it is ion plated stainless steel. Neither of these two finishes will ever age, patina or require polishing.
Our jewelry pieces that our silver in color are one of two metals. Either sterling plated brass, or aluminum. The earrings pictured are textured aluminum.
We use aluminum in place of sterling silver in order to both be able to make jewelry light weight and easy to wear, as well as to keep our price point affordable and accessible to all.
Pieces that have sterling plated brass are typically smaller in size and have a sort of antiqued or patinated look. See the square earrings pictured in the “Pink/Red Finish” metal. The silver square on top is sterling plated brass and is 100% impossible to tell that it is not 925 sterling silver throughout. Plated metals are long lasting and require minimal polishing.
Jewelry that contains a component that is completely black, or black with hues of green/turquoise is simply raw brass that has been chemically altered to patina to this dark beautiful black. It is then sealed to protect and preserve this finish.
This metal should not ever be purposefully rubbed or polished.
Pink/Red Toned Metal
Any metal that has a pinkish or redish hue to it is copper. We use both raw copper and antiqued copper in our compositions. Raw meaning it is pure and untreated. Antiqued means it has been chemically altered to look aged, then sealed to preserve this look. If you begin to notice that your copper piece is antiquing and you prefer the shiny new look, first remove any other components (when possible) and use a polishing cloth or a little lemon and salt to polish your piece.
Dingy Gold or Bronze Finish
Jewelry with a brownish gold or antiqued looking gold is brass that has been chemically altered to look aged or vintage, then sealed for preservation purposes.
