14 karat gold filled is a thick layer of real gold that has been "fused" (similar to welding or soldering) with heat and pressure to a base metal. The layer of gold bonds permanently to the metal so the gold surface will not wear off.
Gold filled isverydifferent from gold plating or gold vermeil. Gold plated and vermeil jewelry is known for wearing off and eventually becoming a different color underneath. Likewise, the methods used to create gold plated or vermeil metal are much less complex and can be purchased from Walmart, H&M, Target, and any other big box store for a mere few dollars.
Is 14k gold-filled good quality? Gold-fill is absolutely your best option after solid gold for quality and durability. It will never rub or flake off or turn your skin green and it offers a great option for people with sensitive skin. Gold Filled jewelry is considered lifetime jewelry.
Our ear wires and necklace chain are always either sterling silver or 14 karat gold filled. Both perfect for longevity and for folks with sensitivities to metal. 😎
The pendant part of our pieces (the dangly part) are made of either sterling silver plated brass (a solid thick plate of sterling) or a beautiful raw gold jewelers brass. Both of these materials age and patina so beautifully over time that we have chosen not to apply an “anti-patina” coating to allow for this natural and lovely process to occur. Fluff Hardware gets better with age!
Our accessories are meant to be a treasured staple in your jewelry arsenal and thus, may need to be treated like one. Over the years we have created hundreds of designs, some more durable and adventure proof than others, so here are some tips to help your beautiful pieces last a lifetime.
-- We recommend storing your jewelry in a friction free, dry location. Bathroom storage can speed up the patination process.
-- Do not shower or swim in your jewelry
-- Try to avoid dropping anything with stone or wood in the design.
-- Polish the various metals from time to time unless you like the current patina
-- And lastly, our best tip, don't shove your jewelry in your purse. ;)
Our current handling time is up to 10 business days (Monday–Friday). We often ship out sooner, but since every piece of Fluff Hardware is handmade by real humans in the USA—under great working conditions we’re proud of—we simply can’t compete with Amazon-speed (and we’re okay with that 💁♀️).
That said, if you’ve selected Free Local Pickup, your item is often ready a little sooner! Need it even faster? Give either of our Boise retail locations a call—we’ll happily check in-store availability for you.

DOMESTIC SHIPPING: We offer free domestic USPS First Class Shipping with tracking (1-5 days) on all orders. Or you can select USPS Priority (1-3 days depending on location) during checkout for a slightly faster option.
FREE LOCAL PICKUP: We are also now offering free local pick-up at your convenience from both of our brick and mortar locations in Boise ID. This is a great way to get your items in hand without having to wait for the post office!

You will be emailed or text messaged once your order is ready for pick-up. PLEASE do not come to the stores to retrieve your order until you've received that message from us.
INTERNATIONAL ORDERS: Yes! We ship internationally! We are currently set up for flat rate shipping with tracking for $15 to Europe & Canada.
Did you lose an earring, or part of an earring? Or did you love them so hard they broke? Please don't hesitate to contact us! We greatly appreciate customers who reach out to get their item repaired or replaced as it shows you love their jewelry and have an appreciation for our work. We are happy to work with you.
To start the process, please email us a photo of any/all remaining parts/pieces of the jewelry you have left and we'll get back to you letting you know if the item is fixable/replaceable. Depending on the type of repair, there may be a small fee. We will let you know once we see your piece/s.
We are happy to accept your unworn/unused items for return or exchange within 30 days of purchase with receipt, packing slip, or order number.
For purchases made in November & December we will accept returns through January 31st.

At this time, we don’t cover return shipping. To keep our prices low and accessible for everyone, we’ve chosen not to build return shipping costs into our pricing. The good news? Return shipping is usually very affordable!
If mailing in your return, please include a note about why you are returning your item and do not forget to include your packing slip, receipt, or order number. We cannot process any return without it.

At Fluff Hardware, we stand behind the quality and craftsmanship of our handmade jewelry. Our commitment to you is reflected in our Lifetime Warranty, which covers the following:
What’s Covered:
- Manufacturing Defects: Any issues that arise due to defects in materials or workmanship will be repaired or replaced at no charge. Jump rings, wire wraps, or ear wire that comes apart.
- Normal Wear and Tear: We offer complimentary cleaning and maintenance services to ensure your jewelry remains in its best condition. Sometimes things need a refresh, we are happy to polish tarnished jewelry and fix jump rings, wire wraps, ear wire, or rainbows that are on their last leg.
What’s Not Covered:
- Accidental Damage: Damage resulting from accidents, misuse, or improper care is not covered under the warranty. Broken stones or necklace chains broken at a link are not under warranty.
- Loss or Theft: Not covered by lifetime warranty. We can however (usually) replace a lost earring for ½ price of the original earring, plus $2.
- Alterations and Repairs: Any modifications or repairs made by individuals other than our authorized professionals may void the warranty.
- Discontinued & Unique Designs: Pieces that we no longer have listed on our website may not be covered due to not carrying the components anymore. One-off unique’s are also not covered due to the possibility of components being out of stock.
How to Make a Claim: To request a repair or replacement under our Lifetime Warranty, please contact us at customerservice@fluffhardware.com or come into one of our retail locations with your broken or damaged jewelry. We’ll guide you through the process to ensure your jewelry is promptly taken care of.
Please note that this warranty does not affect your statutory rights.
