14 karat gold filled is a thick layer of real gold that has been "fused" (similar to welding or soldering) with heat and pressure to a base metal. The layer of gold bonds permanently to the metal so the gold surface will not wear off.
Gold filled isverydifferent from gold plating or gold vermeil. Gold plated and vermeil jewelry is known for wearing off and eventually becoming a different color underneath. Likewise, the methods used to create gold plated or vermeil metal are much less complex and can be purchased from Walmart, H&M, Target, and any other big box store for a mere few dollars.
Is 14k gold-filled good quality? Gold-fill is absolutely your best option after solid gold for quality and durability. It will never rub or flake off or turn your skin green and it offers a great option for people with sensitive skin. Gold Filled jewelry is considered lifetime jewelry.
Our ear wires and necklace chain are always either sterling silver or 14 karat gold filled. Both perfect for longevity and for folks with sensitivities to metal. 😎
The pendant part of our pieces (the dangly part) are made of either sterling silver plated brass (a solid thick plate of sterling) or a beautiful raw gold jewelers brass. Both of these materials age and patina so beautifully over time that we have chosen not to apply an “anti-patina” coating to allow for this natural and lovely process to occur. Fluff Hardware gets better with age!
Our accessories are meant to be a treasured staple in your jewelry arsenal and thus, may need to be treated like one. Over the years we have created hundreds of designs, some more durable and adventure proof than others, so here are some tips to help your beautiful pieces last a lifetime.
-- We recommend storing your jewelry in a friction free, dry location. Bathroom storage can speed up the patination process.
-- Do not shower or swim in your jewelry
-- Try to avoid dropping anything with stone or wood in the design.
-- Polish the various metals from time to time unless you like the current patina
-- And lastly, our best tip, don't shove your jewelry in your purse. ;)

As required by law, lighters shipped from Fluff Hardware are sold empty and do not come pre-filled with fuel. You will need to purchase butane fuel or zippo lighter fuel separately and fill it yourself. We recommend Fasfil 5X Refined Butane Fuel available on Amazon or at your nearest smoke shop (cheaper at the smoke shops for sure!) DO NOT purchase Coleman butane fuel as that is designed specifically for camp stoves. Or Zippo Lighter Fuel (for all wick types) available on Amazon or at your nearest smoke shop (cheaper at the smoke shops for sure!)

All online orders will be shipped with rubber gloves for use when filling your lighter.
Our current handling (aka making) time is up to 3 business days (Monday–Friday). We often ship out sooner, but since every piece of Fluff Hardware is handmade by real humans in the USA—under great working conditions we’re proud of—we simply can’t compete with Amazon-speed (and we’re okay with that 💁♀️).
That said, if you’ve selected Free Local Pickup, your item is often ready a little sooner! Need it even faster? Give either of our Boise retail locations a call—we’ll happily check in-store availability for you.

DOMESTIC SHIPPING: We offer free domestic USPS First Class Shipping with tracking (1-5 days) on all orders. Or you can select USPS Priority (1-3 days depending on location) during checkout for a slightly faster option.
INTERNATIONAL ORDERS: Yes! We ship internationally! We are currently set up for flat rate shipping with tracking for $15 to Europe & Canada.

We are happy to work with you.
To start the process, please email us a photo of any/all remaining parts/pieces of the jewelry you have left and we'll get back to you letting you know if the item is fixable/replaceable. Depending on the type of repair, there may be a small fee. We will let you know once we see your piece/s.
We are happy to accept your unworn/unused items for return or exchange within 30 days of purchase with receipt, packing slip, or order number.
For purchases made in November & December we will accept returns through January 31st.

At this time, we don’t cover return shipping. To keep our prices low and accessible for everyone, we’ve chosen not to build return shipping costs into our pricing. The good news? Return shipping is usually very affordable!
If mailing in your return, please include a note about why you are returning your item and do not forget to include your packing slip, receipt, or order number. We cannot process any return without it.

What’s Covered
Manufacturing Defects
We will repair or replace items at no charge if a defect in materials or workmanship is present. This includes issues such as:
- Jump rings or wire wraps coming apart under normal use
- Faulty ear wires or structural connection points
Normal Wear Maintenance
We offer complimentary light maintenance to keep your jewelry looking its best. This includes:
- Cleaning and polishing
- Tightening or replacing jump rings or wire wraps
- Minor adjustments due to regular wear
Please note: Repairs, replacements and select maintenance will be performed at our production studio and not in our retail stores.
What’s Not Covered
Accidental Damage or Misuse
Damage caused by accidents, improper care, or misuse is not covered. This includes (but is not limited to):
- Broken chains or chains that snap from force or impact
- Broken or chipped stones
- Damage from being caught, pulled, or dropped
Loss or Theft
Lost or stolen items are not covered under warranty. However, we offer a replacement earring at 50% of the current listing price plus a $10 service fee to make the replaced piece match your existing piece to the best of our ability.
Alterations or Third-Party RepairsAny modification or repair performed outside of Fluff Hardware may void this warranty.
Discontinued or Unique Designs
Because our jewelry is handmade, some styles or components may be discontinued over time. If an exact repair or replacement is not possible, we may offer a repair using available materials or a replacement of equal or similar value at our discretion.
DIY Workshop Pieces
Items created at Fluff Hardware DIY jewelry design parties or other workshops may or may not be eligible for replacement depending on piece availability. See below to inquire.
How to Make a Claim
To request a repair or replacement, please email us at customerservice@fluffhardware.com or visit one of our retail locations. Our production team will evaluate the piece and determine the appropriate repair or replacement option. Please note, cost determinations will not be made in stores.
Additional Terms
Determination of defect versus wear or damage is made upon inspection by Fluff Hardware.
If an exact replacement is not available, we will do our best to offer a solution of equal or similar value.
